How it started
Who is behind it
One person, not a team
There is no company and no editorial team behind LIVINGEN, just one human being who spent too long searching and eventually started automating the refreshing. All of this was built in evenings and nights. That explains both: why it is free — and why an answer to an email sometimes takes two days.
Anyone searching for a rental flat in Germany knows the routine: fifteen portals, three times a day, always the same listings, and the one good flat is gone before you ever saw it. Not because others were a better fit. Because they clicked twenty minutes earlier.
LIVINGEN grew out of exactly that frustration. First as a small script that queried a handful of pages. Then sorting by German state was added, because nationwide floods of listings are useless. Then the small providers — cooperatives and municipal companies that never appear on a portal and still have the better rents.
Today it has become a system that runs around the clock, reads 26 sources at once, can repair itself when a portal is rebuilt, and writes the results into sixteen state channels. What it has not become: a product somebody has to pay for.
Because anyone looking for a flat usually has too many expenses already. A paywall in front of a flat search would be the last thing this market needs.

We collect nothing about you.
There is no LIVINGEN account, no mailing list, no search profile, no tracker on this site. We do not know which flat you clicked on — and we do not want to know.

We do not rewrite listings and we do not put ourselves between you and the landlord. The link goes where the listing is. We earn nothing from you clicking it.
Accepting no for an answer.
If a portal does not want to be read by machines, we leave it out — even when it hurts. Several big names are missing here for exactly that reason.

What is actually running
- 26 sourcesread in parallel each round, each in its own worker. One outage does not slow the others down.
- Postcode sortingassignment via the postcode instead of the title — considerably more reliable.
- Self-repairIf a source comes back empty several rounds in a row, it is rewritten automatically, tested, and only then made live again.
- Discord botcreates categories and channels itself and posts into the right German state at a two-second interval.
- This websitereads along in the channels via the Discord interface and shows the newest finds at the top — without contact details, which belong in the channel.
